One of the most significant events in the life of a person who follows Christ is his or her baptism. It is a way of publicly saying that you are trusting Jesus for the forgiveness of your sin, and you are all in as his follower. If you have put your faith in Jesus, and have not been baptized, then baptism is your next step.
What is baptism?
Publicly dunking people may seem strange to you, but this is an ancient ritual that dates back to before the time of Jesus. The word baptize comes from the Greek word "baptizo", meaning to dip or submerge.
Water Baptism is our public confession that we have decided to follow Jesus. Going into the water is symbolic of the death of that old lifestyle, and coming up out of the water represents the newness of life that we receive from Christ.
